The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood is a delightful and intelligent contemporary romance that superbly marries brainy academic life with the escapism of a heartwarming love story.

Olive Smith, at the crux of her third year as a Ph.D. candidate, is a woman who firmly casts aside any belief in the endurance of romantic relationships. However, her best friend Anh is a firm believer in happily-ever-afters, leading Olive into a comedic and chaotic situation. In a desperate bid to convince her friend that she is indeed heading for her own romance, Olive impulsively kisses the first man she lays eyes on. That man turns out to be Dr. Adam Carlsen, a young, brilliant, but notoriously unapproachable professor.

Adam, known for his scathing critiques and high academic standards, baffles Olive by agreeing to maintain the façade and pretend to be her boyfriend. As they navigate their fake relationship, Olive's perception of Adam begins to shift. Especially when he provides steadfast support during a pivotal science conference, revealing a depth of character and, quite frankly, abs that could be part of a study in their own right.

As their contrived experiment in romance unfolds, the boundaries between pretense and genuine emotion blur, leading Olive into uncharted territories of the heart. With witty banter, enchanting chemistry, and moments that will make your heart flutter, Olive learns that the complexities of a made-up hypothesis on love are nothing compared to the intricacies of putting one’s own feelings under the microscope.

Ali Hazelwood's adept storytelling, combined with her authentic portrayal of the academic world, creates a refreshing narrative that is both engrossing and delightful. The Love Hypothesis brings forth a unique blend of humour, emotion, and intellectual allure, making it a must-read for anyone looking for a spellbinding romantic tale in the midst of scientific academia.

About the Author

Ali Hazelwood is the New York Times and Sunday Times bestselling author of The Love Hypothesis, Love on the Brain, Love Theoretically, Check & Mate and Bride, as well as a writer of peer-reviewed articles about brain science, in which no one makes out and the ever after is not always happy. Originally from Italy, she lived in Germany and Japan before moving to the US to pursue a PhD in neuroscience. She recently became a professor, which absolutely terrifies her. When Ali is not at work, she can be found running, eating cake pops, or watching sci-fi movies with her two feline overlords (and her slightly-less-feline husband).
