Brooklyn, The City Within showcases Brooklyn as one of the most dynamic and ethnically diverse places on the planet. It's estimated that one in every eight US families had relatives pass through Brooklyn when settling in the country. Over the past five years, Alex Webb and Rebecca Norris Webb have captured a profound and vibrant portrait of this New York City borough through their photography.

Alex Webb has explored every corner of the borough, documenting its tremendous diversity, in a style that echoes his work from the past forty years, where he travelled the world to photograph various cultures. This is where he now calls home. In contrast, Rebecca Norris Webb focused on "the city within the city within the city," particularly the green heart of Brooklynβ€” the Botanic Garden, Greenwood Cemetery, and Prospect Park. These spaces are where Brooklynites from all backgrounds intersect as they seek solace.

Together, their photographs in Brooklyn, The City Within tell a larger American story, touching on themes of immigration, identity, and home.
