Let's see what the Book Hero team is reading this weekend!
Eve - The Nightingale
“I’m currently reading and greatly enjoying ‘The Nightingale’ by Kristin Hannah. Her writing is incredibly powerful and emotional, making it easy to connect with the characters and get transported to their experiences. The story has given me a deeper appreciation for the courage and sacrifices woman made during these significant historical periods, like in this case, World War II.”
Amelia - Dire Bound and Fury Bound
“I just finished Fury Bound after devouring Dire Bound over the long weekend. I loved yearning and banter in both books, they were both so well written and I can't wait for the third book to come out!”
Shirl - A Brief History of Seven Killings
“I’m currently reading my May bookclub book (in June!). So far it's action packed, gritty, feels like someone should've turned this into a movie or tv show like The Wire. Loving it so far.”
Dylan - The Sentence
“I'm currently reading The Sentence by Louise Erdrich after being inspired to pick it up when I saw her at the Writers Festival. It's set in a bookstore during the COVID-19 pandemic - two topics I'm intimately familiar with!I had a good laugh with Lizzy over this line: "We plotted out our hours and worried that we would not be able to fit all of our customers into our little space during the rush, and we also worried that we might not have enough customers" that pretty much summed up our experience last weekend in the bookstore :P”
Roopa - Dark Matter
“I just finished Dark Matter by Blake Crouch and was completely hooked from the very first chapter. I loved the mix of sci-fi, suspense, and twists that made it so hard to put down. Now that I've finished the book, I can't wait to start the TV adaptation.”
Lizzy - The Perfect Matcha and Land
“I've just started The Perfect Matcha by Stevie Green which is a brand new contemporary romance that is right up my alley after loving Laurie Gilmore's Pumpkin Spice Cafe! This one has some of my favourite tropes - grumpy x sunshine, returning to small home town after life in the big city, and it feels like there may be a matcha truck involved! So far it's exactly what I'm after! I also bought myself Land today and I can’t wait to start it this weekend.”
Philip - My Friends
“I recently finished 'My Friends' by Fredrik Backman, which I absolutely loved. The book deals with some heavy subject matter in a really beautiful and uplifting way - I found myself so invested that I was skipping chapters ahead just to make sure the characters were ok! It's the kind of story you want to sit with and contemplate after finishing, an absolute must read with some really beautiful messages to take away.”
