"I’ve just returned from a short trip to Japan, where I was lucky enough to visit a handful of local bookshops while immersing myself in Japan’s spectacular culture and cuisine.
I love visiting bookshops when I travel - they’re familiar yet unique wherever you go. A quiet, comforting place to pause before your next adventure. Buying a book is also an affordable souvenir and a lovely way to remember a trip for years to come.
Japan is both dazzlingly modern and beautifully timeless - a place of neon lights, LCD displays, and the latest gadgets, yet also of handcrafted ceramics, ornate calligraphy, and meticulous packaging.
Reading culture is alive and well, with bookshops in every town, city, and even the subway stations. Commuters of all ages can still be seen balancing a book in one hand and their phone in the other.
For readers, wherever you are in the world, a bookshop always feels like home. Thanks for a wonderful time, Japan - I can’t wait to return!"
