Overlooked throughout her life, Miyo Saimori was dismissed as magically untalented and cast out of the house where she grew up. But despite all odds, she managed to find love and a place to belong with Kiyoka Kudo, the young head of a powerful family.

Although Miyo is now engaged to Kiyoka, nightmares plague her and weaken her health. In search of answers, the couple are led to the mysterious Usuba clan's estate. There, they learn that Miyo's mother was an Usuba and Miyo has inherited the clan's rare Gift, itself a secret so fiercely guarded that few outside the family even know what it is. Miyo's newfound relatives insist that she stay with them and learn to control the formidable power within her.

When Kiyoka objects, Miyo's cousin Arata Tsuruki challenges him to a duel. Will Kiyoka manage to rescue his fiancée—and will Miyo learn to master her mysterious Gift before it destroys her?
