This definitive retelling captures the imagination with its comprehensive narrative, entwining the heroic feats of Hercules and the intrepid voyage of the Argonauts, while weaving in other iconic stories such as Theseus and the Minotaur, Midas and his golden touch, the Trojan War, and the epic journey of Odysseus as he strives to return home.

For over fifty years, Robert Graves's rendition of the Greek myths has been revered as the gold standard, bringing a novelist's skill and a poet's sensitivity to these ancient stories. Drawing from the entirety of ancient literature, Graves crafts a cohesive and expansive epic that is at once accessible to first-time readers and valuable to scholars alike.

The book is structured to be read either as a continuous narrative, immersing the reader in the intertwined lives and adventures of gods and heroes, or as a reference work. Its full commentaries are rich with cross-references, interpretations, and explanations, offering insights into the numerous variants and intricacies of each myth. Additionally, a comprehensive index of names enhances its utility, making it an indispensable resource for anyone delving into the profound influence these myths have exerted on Western literature and culture.

Graves's masterful storytelling ensures that each myth retains its original splendour while being presented in a form that resonates with contemporary audiences. From the majestic struggles and triumphs of the Olympian gods to the tragic flaws and fates of mortal heroes, The Greek Myths continues to be a treasure trove of storytelling brilliance—a classic among classics that continues to inspire and captivate readers the world over.
