Description

The Penguin Book of the Contemporary British Short Story is a spectacular treasury of the best British short stories published in the last twenty years.

We are living in a particularly rich period for British short stories. Despite the relative lack of venues in which they can be published, the challenge the medium represents has attracted many remarkable writers.

Philip Hensher, following the great success of his definitive two-volume The Penguin Book of the British Short Story, has been delving into a vast trove of material and has chosen thirty great stories, written between the death of Princess Diana and the present day.

Book Hero Magic summarised reviews for this book. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! HOW HAS THIS BEEN REVIEWED?

The Penguin Book of the Contemporary British Short Story is described as a delightful collection akin to uncovering treasures, offering readers a rewarding array of stories selected by Philip Hensher. The compilation is praised for its richness and variety, providing a selection of the best short stories over the past two decades. Hensher's introduction is highlighted as particularly enriching, and the collection is compared to a sumptuous feast, with each story offering something worthy of savouring.
