Description
The Roman Spring Of Mrs Stone charts the transformation of Mrs Stone from a famous, rich American actress to a notorious, very wealthy American widow. This transition takes years, during which her youth and legendary beauty gradually slip away.
In search of an escape, she flees to Rome. However, even the distractions of the Eternal City cannot halt the advance of old age as it inexorably makes its mark on her life. In a frantic bid to cling to vitality, she decides to take a loverβa young and exceptionally attractive Italianβinvesting in his physical allure for some semblance of return.
Yet, the cost proves too great. It is not the financial burden that overwhelms her but rather the toll on her dignity.

About the Author
Tennessee Williams (Thomas Lanier Williams) was born in 1911 in Mississippi where he was brought up before moving to St Louis. He studied at the Universities of Washington and Iowa, and in New York while embarking on a career as a playwright. He achieved popular and critical success with many of his plays including The Glass Menagerie, A Streetcar Named Desire and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. He also wrote a novella, and some collections of poems and short stories. His Memoirs appeared in 1975. He died in 1983.
