Satoshi Onoe, a dedicated reporter for a weekly magazine, finds himself far from thrilled when paired with his new stakeout partner, Motoharu Kaburagi. Kaburagi's unconventional reporting methods and generally bad attitude are enough to drive Onoe insane. Yet, as the two continue to work together, they find themselves growing closer.

Following the yakuza incident and Onoe's daring rescue, rookie reporter Kasai's perception of Onoe shifts dramatically. No longer viewed as a rival, Kasai begins to admire Onoe to a fault, much to Kaburagi's displeasure. While on the trail of a story about a famous actor's alleged affair, Onoe and Kaburagi encounter Kasai. In a moment of jealousy, Kaburagi impulsively declares that he and Onoe are a couple. Overhearing this revelation, the devious Inami decides to target Onoe.
