New collection from leading climate-change poet.
Dracula in the Colonies by Tim Jones transports readers to Aotearoa, where Dracula finds himself on a stolen estate between a braided river and the Main Divide. Sophisticated and devious, Dracula positions himself at the centre of power, attempting to influence the future of a nation.
Tim Jones arrives in Aotearoa by ship from Lincolnshire, encountering a land of treacherous coastlines, mountain passes, and cold southern air. Like Dracula, he ventures north to Wellington, knocking on the door of Parliament, but in his case, he seeks action for climate change.
In Jones's poems, readers will find an array of characters: a mother subjected to electric-shock therapy, the knight of lost causes, an angel investing in a startup, and a rapid hedgehog. Meanwhile, the waves inexorably draw closer.
Dracula in the Colonies showcases Tim Jones at his most serious and playful, with "his feet leaving marks on the path to the page."
