The All-rounder by Dan Christian takes readers on an exhilarating journey through the dynamic and fast-paced world of T20 cricket. With vivid storytelling and keen insights, Christian expertly navigates the highs and lows of being a globe-trotting cricketer, capturing the essence of chasing summer across continents while donning multiple jerseys.

The book delves into Dan Christian's experiences as one of the game's most sought-after players, providing an insider's view of prestigious tournaments from the billion-dollar Indian Premier League, where he played under the leadership of Virat Kohli for Royal Challengers Bangalore, to South Africa's Mzansi Super League, and beyond. Readers get a front-row seat to the inaugural season of England's innovative franchise competition, The Hundred, where Christian captained the Manchester Originals, showcasing his leadership both on and off the pitch.

Throughout these travels, Christian’s narrative is intertwined with reflections on his indigenous Australian heritage and personal life, including the weighty contemplation of imminent fatherhood. He poignantly shares his thoughts on the historical and cultural significance of his background, adding depth and resonance to his cricketing odyssey. Simultaneously, the shadow of COVID-19 looms large, with bio-secure bubbles and pandemic uncertainties forming a unique backdrop to an already demanding career.

Christian's account is not just a diary of matches won and lost, but a candid exploration of the mental and physical challenges facing modern cricketers. The rollercoaster of being hailed a hero one day and facing criticism the next is captured with authenticity and a touch of humour. His narrative is as much about the camaraderie and rivalries within the sport as it is about the evolution of T20 cricket into a global phenomenon.

The All-rounder offers an unparalleled look into the world of professional cricket through the eyes of a true journeyman. This book is a must-read for cricket enthusiasts and sports lovers alike, providing not only entertainment but also a deeper understanding of the sacrifices and triumphs that come with being a top-tier athlete in the most exhilarating format of the game.

About the Author

Dan Christian is one of the world's most sought after cricketers, not only a star for the Sydney Sixers but having been part of teams in premier leagues from India and Pakistan to South Africa and the Caribbean. In The All-Rounder, he takes us on a globe-trotting tour from Karachi to the Caribbean, from the billion-dollar Indian Premier League, where he played for Virat Kohli's Royal Challengers Bangalore, to an Aussie comeback in St Lucia. It was a never-ending summer like no other, shadowed by COVID-19, encased in bio-secure bubbles, in which Dan also reflected on his indigenous heritage and grappled with imminent fatherhood, all the while concentrating on a fast-evolving, high-stakes game in which you're a champion one day, a chump the next. Gideon Haigh has been a journalist since 1984, written forty-two books, edited seven others, and contributed to more than a hundred newspapers and magazines. He works for The Australian and The Times.
