About the Author

NANCY S. NIEMI was the inaugural Director of Faculty Teaching Initiatives in the Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning at Yale University, and is currently the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Niemi's commitment to educational and social equity is evidenced in her work with universities across the country and in her research and publications throughout her career. Her experience in education includes positions as Professor and Chair of the Education Department at the University of New Haven as well as an elected school board member and as a middle school English teacher. Niemi's continuing professional inquiry centers on the intersections of gender, social equity, and higher education.

MARCUS B. WEAVER-HIGHTOWER is professor of Foundations of Education at Virginia Tech, and previously professor of Educational Foundations and Research at the University of North Dakota. His research focuses on boys and masculinity in schools, food politics, the politics and sociology of education and policy, comics and graphic novels, and qualitative methods. He the author of How to Write Qualitative Research, The Politics of Policy in Boys' Education: Getting Boys "Right" and other articles and collections.
