Women in Comfortable Shoes is Selima Hill's 21st poetry collection, following her acclaimed Men Who Feed Pigeons. The book features eleven sequences of sharp, short poems exploring the complexities of women's lives. From Fishface, about a rebellious girl sent to convent school, to Fridge, where inanimate objects evoke death and loss, and Girls without Hamsters, which captures an older woman's fixation on a young man, Hill employs her wit and originality to examine human relationships and contradictions.

Hot on the heels of her previous collection Men Who Feed Pigeons, Selima Hill's Women in Comfortable Shoes is the 21st book of poetry from "the UK’s Emily Dickinson".

This collection presents eleven contrasting but well-fitting sequences of short poems relating to women, including: Fishface, in which a disobedient young girl is sent to a Catholic convent school to give her mother a break; Fridge, in which trucks, geese and fridges speak of death, grief and absence; and Girls without Hamsters, which deals with an older woman's obsession with a spider-legged young man.

Writing with her trademark wit and originality, Selima Hill looks closely at the complications and contradictions that define our lives and relationships.

Book Hero Magic summarised reviews for this book. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! HOW HAS THIS BEEN REVIEWED?

The collection continues Hill's blend of surreal and direct poetry, notable for her trademark humour and striking wit. Critics praise her mastery of miniature portraits in verse, comparing her to "the UK's Emily Dickinson" and noting her ability to give weight to both light and profound themes. Her unique, funny, and sometimes unsettling voice marks her as an original poet highly regarded by literary judges and reviewers alike.
