The Obelisk Gate by N. K. Jemisin continues the gripping saga of survival, resilience, and unrelenting strife in a world that's teetering on the brink of obliteration. This spellbinding sequel to the award-winning novel, The Fifth Season, plunges readers deeper into the ominous and tumultuous landscape of the Stillness.

In a world where natural cataclysms are a terrifying constant, the season of endings is here, shrouded in an eternal night. Civilisation is crumbling, and as the cold lengthens, Essun remains steadfast in her search for her missing daughter, Nassun. Formerly known as Damaya and Syenite, Essun is now an avenger committed to righting the wrongs of her past and securing a future for those she loves.

Essun finds refuge within the confines of the secretive underground community of Castrima, but peace is elusive. Her reunion with Alabaster Tenring, the very man who triggered the cataclysmic event threatening their world, sets a new, impossible task before her. Alabaster's request stands to decide the destiny of the entire Stillness, challenging Essun to reconcile her desires with the future of a fractured land.

Meanwhile, Nassun, miles away from her mother, discovers her burgeoning and formidable power. Under the guidance of a mentor with his own shadowy past, Nassun's journey threatens to tear the world asunder once again, as her choices and acceptance of her abilities become pivotal to the fate of humanity.

N. K. Jemisin's masterful storytelling shines through each page, weaving an epic tale of family, power, and survival against a vividly-detailed backdrop of a dystopian world.
