Book Hero Magic crafted this summary to help describe this book. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Summary
Race, Politics, and Pandemic Pedagogy by Henry A. Giroux explores how education and critical pedagogy are crucial tools to combat societal injustices amplified by fake news, toxic masculinity, racism, consumerism, and white nationalism. The book examines pedagogyโ€™s power to shape narratives of desire, values, identity, and agency amidst rising right-wing populism and global fascism. It frames the pandemic as not only a medical crisis but also a crisis of politics, ethics, education, and democracy. Covering historical fascism, social atomisation, neoliberal pedagogy, inequality, and populism, it ends with a call for educators to champion radical democracy and become agents of transformative change.

Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description

In this book, Henry A. Giroux passionately argues that education and critical pedagogy are needed now more than ever to combat injustices in our society caused by fake news, toxic masculinity, racism, consumerism, and white nationalism. At the heart of the book is the idea that pedagogy has the power to create narratives of desire, values, identity, and agency at a time when these narratives are being manipulated to promote right-wing populism and emerging global fascist politics.

Race, Politics, and Pandemic Pedagogy expands on the notion of the plague as not only a medical crisis but also a crisis of politics, ethics, education, and democracy itself. The chapters cover a range of topics, beginning with historical perspectives on fascism and moving on to issues of social atomisation, depoliticisation, neoliberal pedagogy, the scourge of staggering inequality, populism, and pandemic pedagogy.

The book concludes with a call for educators to make education central to politics, develop a discourse of critique and possibility, reclaim the vision of a radical democracy, and embrace their role as powerful agents of change.

Book Hero Magic summarised reviews for this book. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! HOW HAS THIS BEEN REVIEWED?

Reviews highlight Girouxโ€™s insightful analysis of the overlapping crises worsened by the pandemic and the urgent need for education as a tool for mass solidarity and change. International Journal of Human Rights Education praises the book for providing analytical lenses to better understand current complexities and promote love and understanding. Policy & Practice: A Development Education Review notes it as a vital warning about democracyโ€™s fragility, showing how neoliberal inequities can lead to fascism and civil liberty erosion, underscoring the necessity of critical education and historical awareness for transformative learning.

It contributes to the pitting of people against each other through the lens...
