The Game of the Impossible is about setting impossible targets and achieving them through a transformative process. This book elucidates how to transform a company, organisation, country, or individual to accomplish goals deemed impossible by fostering innovation and implementing deep changes in the way things are done.
Author Idris Jala shares his extensive experiences in numerous successful transformations at Shell, a national airline, companies, organisations, departments, and governments. These examples provide solid practical support for his methodology and furnish discussion points for real-world challenges encountered on the shop floor.
The crux of this transformation lies in setting nearly impossible targets, necessitating a significant shift in operational methods. While major strategic goals are determined by top management in consultation with others and remain non-negotiable, it is those tasked with implementing the transformation who decide on the subgoals. This approach fosters ownership, motivation, and a renewed enthusiasm for achieving results.
The concept of Big Fast Results, or BFR, as Idris calls it, involves reaching exceptionally high targets through radical changes in processes, procedures, and actions. All these changes are measurable and adhere to definite timelines. The book is free of jargon, readable, clear, and concise, enabling any interested person to understand and practise it. There is no other book quite like it - it guides the reader through every necessary step to achieve BFR, steps which have been tested and proven in the crucible of experience.
Idris speaks from direct experience and provides numerous case examples to substantiate his insights throughout the book.
