The delightfully rambunctious dog's adventures continue in Hairy Maclary's Caterwaul Caper by Lynley Dodd. In this lively tale, Scarface Claw, the fiercest cat in the neighbourhood, finds himself in a spot of trouble when his curiosity leads him high up into the branches of a tree. Unable to get down, Scarface's piercing yowls echo throughout the town, creating a cacophony of sound that disturbs the quiet morning.

Hairy Maclary, the lovable and adventurous terrier, hears the racket and sets off to investigate the source of the commotion. Joined by his motley crew of canine friends from Donaldson's Dairy – including the playful Schnitzel von Krumm, the gallant Hercules Morse, and the fluffy Bitzer Maloney – Hairy Maclary leads the charge to save the day. As they follow the uproarious noise, they stumble upon an unusual scene that challenges their courage and cleverness.

With Dodd's signature rhyming text and vibrant, expressive illustrations, Hairy Maclary's Caterwaul Caper is sure to captivate young readers and adults alike. The playful prose beautifully captures the personality of each character, making it an engaging read-aloud experience. The story not only entertains but also subtly teaches lessons about teamwork, bravery, and the importance of helping others in distress.

This charming tale from Lynley Dodd continues the legacy of the beloved Hairy Maclary series, beloved by children for its enduring charm and whimsical storytelling. Perfect for bedtime reading or storytime sessions, Hairy Maclary's Caterwaul Caper is a delightful addition to any child's bookshelf.

About the Author

Lynley Dodd graduated from the Elam School of Art in Auckland with a diploma in Fine Arts, majoring in sculpture. She went on to teach art before taking a break to start a family. She began to work as a freelance illustrator and collaborated with author Eve Sutton on My Cat Likes To Hide in Boxes. There was no looking back as Lynley went on to write and illustrate her own books for children. Exuberant artwork and bouncy rhymes come together perfectly in books like Slinky Malinki and Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy. As well as being a visual delight, these are some of the most rewarding books for children and adults to read out loud. It comes as no surprise that, as a child, she adored Dr Seuss because of his 'crazy sounds and the fact that he took such liberties with the English language.' Other favourite authors included A A Milne and the fairy tales of The Grimm Brothers and Hans Christian Andersen. Today, Lynley is a big fan of Quentin Blake 'because of his humour and very clever art work.'
