Dame Suzy D: My Story
Frank, funny, and pulling nopunches, Susan Devoy's life storyis unlike any you've read before.
Susan Devoy’s love for squash ignited at a young age, but it was her relentless drive to win that propelled her to the pinnacle of her sport. With a fierce competitive spirit, she conquered the world of squash, clinching the World Championship title four times and cementing her place in sports history. However, Devoy’s story extends far beyond the squash court.
Dame Susan has worn many hats throughout her illustrious career. She has been a chief executive, Race Relations Commissioner, television star, kiwifruit picker, and mother to four boys. With each role, she brought her distinctive blend of determination, humour, and authenticity, endearing her to fans across various spectrums of society. Her autobiography provides a candid look into these diverse facets of her life.
In her own words, Devoy narrates her life's journey with the same blunt and often hilarious style that has won her legions of new followers on Celebrity Treasure Island. She shares the joyous highs and challenging lows, the victories and setbacks, and the battles that shaped her resilient character. Moreover, she delves into the personal bonds and relationships that have been her sanctuary during life's toughest trials.
‘She writes just like she talks, and her autobiography is full of glorious little anecdotes relayed in that blunt, often hilarious, style,’ raves the Sunday Star Times.
Meanwhile, Petra Bagust describes the book as ‘a rollicking story of a life well lived.’ And John Campbell adds, ‘This is the story of becoming Suzy D - in all her determined, triumphant and unabashed singularity’.
Dame Suzy D: My Story is not just a sports memoir; it is a testament to what can be achieved with tenacity, courage, and an unwavering sense of self. It provides a rich, engaging narrative for anyone looking to be inspired by the life of one of New Zealand’s most beloved and accomplished figures.
