Eureka! by Mark Wilson follows the journey of Molly and her father who have emigrated to Australia to try their luck as gold prospectors in Ballarat, Victoria. Life on the diggings is challenging, and Molly deeply misses her mother, who passed away before they left England.

In their new home, a Chinese teenager named Chen teaches Molly and her Papa how to pan for gold and comes to their aid when their food and money run out. However, not everyone on the goldfields is welcoming. Chen and other Chinese diggers frequently face bullying, and the police imprison miners who fail to pay the steep gold licence fee. As tensions rise, Molly, her Papa, and Chen find themselves involved in a protest that will become known as the Eureka Rebellion—a historic conflict that will leave a lasting impact on their lives.
