Translating Japanese Texts by Lita Lundquist and Kirsten Refsing is a practical textbook and precise introduction to the challenges and strategies involved in translating Japanese texts. This book is aimed at both students and teachers of translation, as well as professional translators.

The theoretical foundation of the book posits that texts are created through the interplay between different levels of linguistic material and pragmatic, cognitive, and cultural mechanisms. The authors argue that all translation should consider these factors.

While the book primarily focuses on Japanese and English, highlighting systematic differences between these two languages, it will also be beneficial when translating Japanese into other languages. This makes it a valuable resource for translation in general.

The book will appeal not only to students and professionals in translation and language studies but also to individuals with a general interest in Asian languages, cultures, and ways of thinking. These elements are examined through the lens of translation from Japanese into English.
