Book Hero thinking about your next read

"One bad day is all it takes, according to the grinning engine of madness and mayhem known as the Joker--that's all that separates the sane from the psychotic. Freed once again from the confines of Arkham Asylum, he's out to prove his deranged point. And he's going to use Gotham City's top cop, Commissioner Jim Gordon, and the Commissioner's brilliant and beautiful daughter Barbara to do it"--

Critically acclaimed writer Alan Moore redefined the superhero with Watchmen and V for Vendetta. In Batman- The Killing Joke, he takes on the origin of comics' greatest super-villain, The Joker, and changes Batman's world forever.

Batman: The Killing Joke Deluxe by Alan Moore and Brian Bolland provides a gripping and psychologically intense exploration of the Joker’s character and his impact on Gotham City. With a narrative that plunges into the psyche of one of comics' most iconic villains, this tale seeks to unravel the thin line between sanity and madness. Freed from Arkham Asylum, the Joker sets into motion a chilling plan designed to demonstrate that one bad day is enough to push anyone over the edge.

His targets are none other than Gotham City’s stalwart Police Commissioner, Jim Gordon, and his daughter, Barbara. As the Joker’s machinations unfold, Batman finds himself in a desperate race against time to save his closest allies from the clown prince’s malevolent clutches. The story explores intense psychological depth as Batman confronts the Joker's terrifying origins and grapples with their shared, yet divergent paths of insanity and nobility. The tension escalates as the boundaries between heroism and madness blur, culminating in a confrontation that could shatter Batman's world forever.

Legendary writer Alan Moore, known for redefining the superhero genre with works such as Watchmen and V for Vendetta, brings his masterful storytelling to Batman: The Killing Joke. Moore delves into the origins of comics' greatest super-villain, presenting a Joker origin story that has since become a definitive element of Batman lore.

The Deluxe Edition of Batman: The Killing Joke is a visual feast, stunningly illustrated by Brian Bolland. This edition features lush recolouring supervised by Bolland himself, presenting his original vision with vibrant intensity. Alongside the main story, this edition includes additional content such as stories from Batman: Black and White #4 and Countdown #31, and numerous Batman and Joker covers and sketches. Fans will also relish the inclusion of artwork from the Absolute edition, offering a comprehensive and immersive experience.

Critically acclaimed for both its narrative and artistic excellence, Batman: The Killing Joke Deluxe is a must-have for any graphic novel aficionado or Batman enthusiast. It challenges readers with its dark themes and psychological complexity, while its artistry and storytelling continue to influence and set standards in the world of comics.

About the Author

Alan Moore is perhaps the most acclaimed writer in the graphic story medium, having garnered countless awards for works such as Watchmen, V for Vendetta, Swamp Thing and Miracleman. He is also the mastermind behind the America's Best Comics line, through which he has created (along with many talented illustrators) The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Promethea, Tom Strong, Tomorrow Stories and Top Ten. After making his professional debut in 1975, Brian Bolland perfected his clean-line style and meticulous attention to detail on a series of popular strips for the British comics magazine 2000 AD, most notably its signature feature Judge Dredd. He went on to illustrate the 12-issue maxiseries Camelot 3000 and Batman- The Killing Joke for DC before shifting his focus to work almost exclusively on cover illustrations. Since then, he has earned a reputation as one of the best cover artists in the industry, and his elegantly composed and beautifully rendered pieces have graced a host of titles, including Animal Man, Batman, The Flash, The Invisibles, Wonder Woman, and many more.
