Jungle House by Julianne Pachico unfolds the story of Lena, who has always lived in the jungle with Mother. Within this vibrant yet perilous environment, they tend to a holiday home bursting with colour. Lena's only other friend is Isabella, a girl who once visited regularly with her wealthy parents and their security drone, Anton. However, neither Isabella nor her family have been seen in years.

Mother is unlike other mothers. She becomes angry when Lena draws her with a face. Challenged by Lena to depict herself, Mother paints a tiny yellow dot surrounded by swirling black, declaring that she is a bastion of light against an army of darkness.

Outside their sanctuary, rebels are fighting to seize control of the country. Mother is resolute in her determination that nothing within the security fence will change, ensuring that her bond with Lena remains unthreatened and their family safeguarded. Yet, secrets are poised to surface. How did Lena come to be here? Why has the visiting family disappeared? What has Mother been planning, and what is gathering to alter their lives forever?

Jungle House by Julianne Pachico has been praised for its dazzling and punchy prose, with themes that echo Louise Bourgeois' art for the AI age. Reviewers describe it as compelling, atmospheric, and sultry, combining elements of a fable and a futuristic premonition. It tackles themes of embodiment, relationships, and the delicate balance of love, while also weaving a fairy-tale-like yet sinister narrative. The novel provokes thought about a future where AI caters to a wealthy elite and explores the intricacies of the mother-daughter bond.
