Superman was modelled after Foster's drawings of Tarzan; Flash Gordon's Alex Raymond borrowed compositions from Foster's Prince Valiant; and many artists, including the famous contemporary Western painter James Bama, who contributed the foreword, count Foster among their greatest influences.
