Young Queens by Leah Redmond Chang is a riveting historical narrative that intertwines the lives of three formidable queens: Catherine de’ Medici, Elisabeth de Valois, and Mary, Queen of Scots. Set against the vibrant backdrop of 16th-century Europe, this book delves deep into their shared and individual journeys, capturing the political and personal struggles they encountered in a male-dominated world.

These three women, initially united at the French court through bonds of blood, marriage, and friendship, each experienced the intoxicating and perilous power of the crown. As their paths diverged, they found themselves navigating the treacherous waters of monarchy, where every decision could elevate them to greatness or lead to their downfall. Despite the splendours of royal life, Catherine, Elisabeth, and Mary had to continuously confront and combat the pervasive misogyny of their time.

Chang's masterful storytelling brings to life the poignancies and complexities of their reigns. Young Queens offers an intimate portrayal, weaving together their aspirations, dreams, heartaches, and the often-grim realities they faced. Readers are transported into the very hearts and minds of these three extraordinary women, gaining an unprecedented glimpse into the challenges they faced and the choices they made while ruling in an era of profound change and resistance.

This historical exploration is not only a testament to the resilience and ingenuity of Catherine, Elisabeth, and Mary but also a compelling reflection on the dynamics of power and the indomitable spirit of women throughout history. The book paints a vivid picture of how these young queens manoeuvred through political intrigue, familial obligations, and the constricting societal norms of their time.

Praised for its immersive and gripping narrative style, Young Queens has earned accolades from readers and historians alike:

"Alluring, gripping, real: an astonishing insight into the lives of three queens" - Alice Roberts
"Takes us into the hearts and minds of three extraordinary women" - Amanda Foreman
"Conveys the vitality of the past as few books do. An enviable tour de force" - Suzannah Lipscomb

Longlisted for the Women's Prize for Non-Fiction and featured in Waterstones' Best Books of the Year: History, Young Queens is a boldly original and dramatic account that is sure to captivate anyone interested in historical narratives, powerful women, and the enduring battle against gender bias.
