Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description

History of the Russian Revolution by Leon Trotsky stands as an epic, captivating, and monumental account of the Russian Revolution of 1917. Spanning a wide array of historical, political, and social contexts, Trotsky's narrative delves into the intricate details and dramatic moments that led to the overthrow of the Russian Provisional Government and the establishment of Bolshevik power. Through his unique position as one of the revolution's key leaders, Trotsky provides readers with an insider's perspective on the events that reshaped the world.

With its powerful prose and vivid depiction of revolutionary fervour, History of the Russian Revolution captures the climactic atmosphere of a society on the brink of monumental change. Readers are taken through the chaos and intensity of the period, with attention to both the broader sweep of historical movements and the crucial role of individual actors. Trotsky intricately details the strategies, struggles, and sacrifices of the men and women who fought for the revolution, presenting an unvarnished view of their triumphs and tribulations.

Originally published in three volumes, this definitive edition compiles Trotsky’s masterpiece into a comprehensive single volume. Despite being written by a participant and leader who was subsequently exiled and hunted, Trotsky’s account remains one of the clearest and most compelling records of the Russian Revolution, drawing readers into the heart of a revolutionary tumult that continues to impact today’s political landscape.

C.L.R. James once remarked that Trotsky's work is "the greatest history of an event I know," testifying to its profound influence and unmatched narrative force. Trotsky's meticulous attention to detail and his ability to convey the momentous significance of the Russian Revolution render this book an indispensable resource for historians, students, and anyone interested in the dynamics of revolutionary change.

With its rich historical context and penetrating insights, History of the Russian Revolution not only chronicles a pivotal moment in world history but also illuminates the ideological and personal passions that drive revolutionary movements. Readers are offered an inspiring and, at times, sobering account of an event that continues to shape political thought and action today.

About the Author

Leon Trotsky (Author) Leon Trotsky (1879 - 1940) was a Ukrainian-born Bolshevik revolutionary and Marxist theorist who became one of the leaders of the Russian October Revolution, second only to Lenin. He was expelled from the Communist Party and deported from the Soviet Union in the 1920s, and eventually assassinated in Mexico by a Stalinist agent in 1940. Max Eastman (Translator) Max Eastman (1883-1969) was an American writer, editor and prominent radical. In 1922, he travelled to Russia to study the Soviet regime and witnessed the power struggles between Leon Trotsky and Joseph Stalin. On his return to the United States, he wrote prolifically about socialism and Stalinist Russia. His many books include Since Lenin Died (1925), Marx, Lenin and the Science of Revolution (1926), The End of Socialism in Russia (1937) and Stalin's Russia and the Crisis in Socialism (1939).
