The Four Immigrants Manga
A "documentary comic book" from 1931, depicting the true adventures of four young Japanese men in America.
Originally published in Japanese in 1931, this is the true story, presented in comic book style, of four friends who in 1904 come from Japan to work in the U.S. They serve as houseboys, toil in the fields, and live through the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. They also suffer considerable discrimination.
The Four Immigrants Manga provides valuable personal testimony about early Asian-American struggles, marked by gentle humour.
