Horses of Iceland: In the Land of Fire and Ice is photographer Guadalupe Laiz's second book celebrating her love for Iceland and its horses. In this follow-up book, Laiz widens her lens to not only capture the horses but to showcase the rugged, harsh, and unpredictable environment that has shaped the character of these animals.

It is the interaction between the horses and their epic terrain that tells the whole story, with incredibly beautiful images that exceed the imagination. Laiz's colour and black-and-white portraits of the majestic Icelandic horses are poetry in motion.

For this second publication, Laiz undertook a more ambitious production, collaborating with local horse breeders to capture the horses in iconic and breathtaking locationsβ€”from the famous SkΓ³gafoss blanketed with snow to the active Fagradalsfjall volcano, and galloping across black sand beaches and glaciers, and with waterfalls, tundra, and fierce ocean backdrops.

Laiz's work invites viewers to experience an intimate connection with the mystical horses, as she skillfully juxtaposes their wild power and inherent softness, creating images with a profound sense of emotion. Horses of Iceland: In the Land of Fire and Ice includes a special note signed by the artist.

AUTHOR: Guadalupe Laiz is an international artist, photographer, and explorer. Her passion for wildlife photography was sparked by a profound connection with the indigenous horses of Iceland, which ignited a pursuit of capturing the untamed spirit of animals in her photography.

Laiz's first book, Horses of Iceland (2019), is being reprinted by The Images Publishing Group, which also published her second book, Among the Living, Where You Belong (2023) showcasing the magnificent wildlife photography taken by Laiz in Kenya, Namibia, Tanzania, Botswana, Rwanda, and Uganda over the course of six years.

Laiz's evocative imagery serves as a call to action, highlighting the urgent need for conservation efforts. She has partnered with nonprofits involved with environmental issues, animal abuse, and human-animal conflicts in Africa, such as The Dian Fossey Foundation, Save Giraffes Now, and Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, as well as undertaken humanitarian work for 4africa in South Sudan and northern Uganda.

Driven by the belief that art and beauty transform how people think about conservation and nature, Guadalupe focuses on the environment and animals that are pure and gentle by their very nature. Her desire is to communicate through art an awareness of animal abuse, environmental issues, and the importance of educating all generations on making conscious lifestyle decisions to protect our planet.

SELLING POINTS:

  • Filled with colour and black-and-white images of Icelandic horses in their powerful, rugged, and harsh environment.
  • To capture the breathtaking locations, Laiz worked with local horse owners, trainers, and breeders to transport the horses to renowned and majestic locations. This contrasts with Laiz's first book, which she undertook on her own.
  • Set in a stunning large-format book, the images represent five years of visits to Iceland.
  • A truly exquisite and carefully curated selection of photographs, Horses of Iceland: In the Land of Fire and Ice will become a prized addition to any collection.
  • Laiz collaborated with Thriann Kolbeinsson, who captured the drone photography featured in the book.
