A History of Paradise
From its pioneer settlers and those who came later, A History of Paradise shares stories that resonate as true today as they did for the people who lived through them.
This volume was compiled after years of studious research on the people, places, and events in this small agricultural town in Northern Utah from when Paradise was founded in 1860 through the year 1999, a place Betty was proud to call her "Hometown." The book was written with the hope for this history to enrich the lives of future generations. It is a detailed, thorough record including everything that was important to the communityβwater, the church, bears, mining, local natives, and the school.
Many people have ancestors who resided in Paradise, and they have been very willing to share their stories. Many have written histories to be included in the book; others have abridged histories so they could be included. These histories helped make the book possible. Sources are included in each section to help locate more specific records.
It is a fascinating look into the lives of those who fill our past. Hopefully, it will make us more grateful for the richness of our lives. Without the early settlers, there would not be this beautiful Valley or Paradise.

About the Author
Elizabeth (Betty) Smith Allen (1931-2007) lived in and loved the great town of Paradise. Her book, A History of Paradise, Cache County, Utah: 1860-1999 is the culmination of her life work as a local historian.
Betty grew up in a small agricultural community in Northern Utah. Her early years revolved around serving in the family, at church, and in her small community. Later, she attended Utah State University where she majored in business. Betty often freelanced through typing theses and dissertations at the University of Utah and at Utah State University.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints her entire life and served in many capacities. She helped establish and enhance many local ward libraries, often supplementing them with items from her own home.
Betty's primary focus has always been to her friends, her family, and her community. She dedicated her life to genealogy, family history, and temple work. Her wisdom, love, humor, knowledge and dedication to historical research with immaculate attention to detail has influenced many lives. She brought a sense of history alive to all who knew her and to those who read her words.
