The Revelation of Ireland explores a country transformed significantly since the mid-1990s. Ireland, now a strikingly different nation, has undergone dramatic economic, social, and cultural changes. The Celtic Tiger boom, as well as increasingly secular debates concerning abortion, the status of women, and same-sex marriage, highlight the scale of this transformation.

The country's newfound diversity in population and its literary and musical achievements further reveal its rapid evolution. The path to peace, marking an end to conflict in Northern Ireland and culminating in the historic visit of a reigning British monarch to southern Ireland after 100 years, signifies the new dynamic in Anglo-Irish relations.

Moreover, explosive revelations about deep betrayals from the past have severely undermined the traditionally powerful Catholic Church's credibility. Despite the setbacks of the 2008 financial crash, Ireland has rebounded and rebuilt, enjoying considerable success. However, the nation still grapples with persistent health and housing issues.

The narrative of economic recovery, the end of civil war politics, closer European involvement, and the highs of Anglo-Irish relations is juxtaposed with the lows experienced due to Brexit, alongside growing discussions about Irish unity.

This riveting account of contemporary Ireland promises to open readers' eyes to its recent history. As the Republic enters its second century of independence and the North wrestles with the legacy of the Troubles, Diarmaid Ferriter provides an insightful examination into post-1990s Ireland, delving into what lies hidden within the darkest corners of its archives.
