From "one of the most significant figures of the last generation of fantasy", comes Francesco Dimitri's debut novel in English, an enthralling and seductive fantasy following four old friends and the secrets they keep.
Four old school friends have a pact: to meet up every year in the small town in Puglia they grew up in. Art, the charismatic leader of the group and creator of the pact, insists that the agreement must remain unshakable and enduring. But this year, he never shows up.
A visit to his house increases the friends' worry; Art is farming marijuana. In Southern Italy, doing that kind of thing can be very dangerous. They can't go to the Carabinieri, so must make enquiries of their own. This is how they come across the rumours about Art; bizarre and unbelievable rumours that he miraculously cured the local mafia boss's daughter of terminal leukaemia.
And among the chaos of his house, they find a document written by Art, The Book of Hidden Things, that promises to reveal dark secrets and wonders beyond anything previously known.
Francesco Dimitri's first novel written in English, following his career as one of the most significant fantasy writers in Italy, will entrance fans of Elena Ferrante, Neil Gaiman, and Donna Tartt. Set in the beguiling and seductive landscape of Southern Italy, this story is about friendship and landscape, love and betrayal; above all, it is about the nature of mystery itself.
Book Hero Magic summarised reviews for this book. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! HOW HAS THIS BEEN REVIEWED?
Francesco Dimitri's The Book of Hidden Things is praised for its exploration of themes like unbelief and faith, along with its ability to portray characters facing pivotal moments in their lives. The novel is noted for delving into the vulnerabilities of its characters, who develop significantly throughout the story. It challenges readers to reconsider the boundaries of rationality, suggesting that the true answers are often within reach rather than hidden mysteries.

About the Author
Francesco Dimitri is an Italian writer, author of the enthralling and seductive The Book of Hidden Things novel. His novels are urban fantasy, sometimes with new, weird, steampunk or horror themes, often dealing with magic, ufology, anthropology and pop culture. Among the Italian fantasy writers, he was one of the first to set his stories in an Italian city (in this case Rome). Mario Alberti graduated in Economics with a thesis on distribution in the comics market. He began working as a professional illustrator and writer in 1990 with "Holly Connick", a short story published in the magazine Fumo di China. In 2000, Alberti teamed up with Luca Enoch to co-write a project for the French market: Morgana, published in 2002 by Les Humanoides Associes. Morgana has been translated in France, Italy, Germany, Portugal and Spain and the first issue was also released in the US. In 2004, he collaborated with writer Kurt Busiek to create the new series Redhand. Alberti has also illustrated some covers for Federico Memola's series Jonathan Steele, and since 2006 has been collaborating with DC Comics.
