Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description
A gripping account of the Second World War, seen through the eyes of a young tank commander.

In the heat of 1944, David Render was a nineteen-year-old second lieutenant newly graduated from Sandhurst when he was dispatched to the front lines in France. Joining the Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry just five days after the iconic D-Day landings, Render found himself commanding seasoned veterans who doubted the longevity of their fresh-faced young leader.

The narrative of Tank Action unfolds in the harrowing weeks that followed, during which more than 90 per cent of his fellow tank commanders were either killed or injured. Despite being thrust into relentless and brutal combat, Render's extraordinary skill and unwavering resolve saw him emerge unscathed from numerous perilous engagements, earning him the moniker of the 'Inevitable Mr Render'.

In Tank Action, Render recounts his incredible journey, covering every significant combat episode during the final year of World War II, from the invasion of Normandy to the ultimate fall of Germany. This memoir not only provides a vivid depiction of intense armoured warfare but also delves deep into the themes of survival, leadership, and the unbreakable bonds of comradeship forged on the battlefield.

Render's story is not merely about the brutal realities of war; it is a testament to human endurance, the complexities of leadership in face of adversities, and the strong camaraderie between soldiers. His firsthand account offers readers an authentic and raw perspective of what it truly means to navigate the chaos of war in a tank battalion.

With its meticulous attention to historical detail and Render's poignant personal insights, Tank Action stands out as a monumental work that brings to life the visceral and often tragic experiences of tank commanders during one of the most turbulent times in history. This powerful memoir is essential reading for anyone interested in World War II, military history, or stories of extraordinary bravery and resilience.

Book Hero Magic summarised reviews for this book. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! HOW HAS THIS BEEN REVIEWED?

Tank Action by Stuart Tootal and Captain David Render is praised for its depiction of youthful bravery and heroism. Render's first-hand account, expertly written with Tootal, is both informative about the war's intricacies and as captivating as the best war fiction.

Stuart Tootal spent twenty years as a soldier, serving in Northern Ireland during the Troubles, the Gulf War and the invasion of Iraq in 2003. In 2006 he commanded 3 PARA as the first UK combat unit to be sent to Helmand province in Afghanistan.
