Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description

Hillard and Botting's Elementary Latin Translation was designed to accompany the same authors' Elementary Latin Exercises so that the two books could conveniently be used together, allowing students to learn translation alongside composition.

The order of the grammar in this book matches that in Elementary Latin Exercises. The pieces for translation, numbered with odd numbers, present the chief events of Roman History in chronological order, while those with even numbers provide stories from Greek mythology. Words are repeated frequently to encourage learning and to help students find key words and phrases, eventually recognising and translating them on sight.

It is assumed that the beginner is learning the essentials of Latin grammar in the prescribed order. At each stage, the book provides translation exercises that do not require any form in declension or conjugation which the student has not already learnt.
