Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description

In The Genius of Dogs, world-renowned scientist Brian Hare and acclaimed writer Vanessa Woods delve into the extraordinary intelligence of our canine companions. Drawing from groundbreaking research and personal anecdotes, they explore how dogs have evolved over thousands of years to be uniquely attuned to humans, showcasing a remarkable array of cognitive abilities. From understanding human gestures and mimicking our actions to solving complex problems, this book reveals the sophisticated ways in which dogs interact with the world and their human families.

The narrative begins with Hare's revolutionary discovery about his family dog, which significantly outperformed foxes and even chimpanzees in a crucial experiment. This breakthrough sets the stage for an illuminating journey through the world of canine cognition, helping readers understand why dogs act the way they do. The book challenges traditional notions of dominance, suggesting that friendliness and cooperation, rather than authoritarian control, are the keys to fostering a strong and positive bond with your pet.

The Genius of Dogs is not just a scientific exploration; it is an affectionate tribute to the bond between humans and their dogs. Through engaging storytelling and easy-to-understand explanations of complex scientific concepts, Hare and Woods illuminate the inner workings of a dog's mind. Readers will gain insights into why their dogs may seem to disobey behind their backs and how demonstrating kindness and understanding can be more effective than trying to be the 'top dog.'

This international bestseller is lauded by critics and readers alike. As the Mail on Sunday stated, "Every dog-lover will enjoy this book." The Spectator highlighted its optimistic and warm-hearted nature, describing it as a "fascinating" read. Meanwhile, the BBC Wildlife Magazine called it "deliciously enlightening," underscoring its ability to shed light on the unique intelligence that dogs possess.

The Genius of Dogs is a must-read for dog lovers and anyone interested in animal behaviour and cognition. By the end of this illuminating read, you will not only see dogs in a whole new light but also develop a deeper appreciation for your furry friend's remarkable abilities.
