The Way of Kings

Centuries ago, men lived in the divine realm known as The Tranquiline Halls — until the monstrous Voidbringers attacked and seized Heaven, exiling both God and humanity. Fleeing to the world of Roshar, humanity found itself pursued by these relentless foes. To combat this threat, the Almighty provided humanity with powerful suits of armour and mystical weapons known as Shardblades. Led by ten angelic Heralds and supported by ten orders of knights called Radiants, mankind eventually triumphed over their adversaries... or so the legends claim.

In the present day, the once-glorious Radiants have vanished, and their Shardblades and Shardplate remain as the few remnants of those cataclysmic battles. Possession of a Shardblade makes a man nearly invincible, making them the most coveted assets in a world that has been at war for centuries. Various kings and rulers seek to amass these legendary weapons in hopes of united all of humankind under a single throne.

Amidst this turmoil, young Kaladin, a spearman forced into the army of a Shardbearer, grapples with internal and external conflicts. Driven into battles he doesn't comprehend and doesn't wish to fight, Kaladin's journey reveals deeper mysteries about the nature of the past, the betrayal of the Radiants, and the fate of the arcane abilities they once wielded.
