Shogun by James Clavell is a sweeping epic that transports readers to the tumultuous world of feudal Japan. The story begins with the shipwreck of English Pilot-Major John Blackthorne off the coast of Japan, an event that marks the beginning of his incredible journey in a land that is as beautiful as it is dangerous. Stranded on unfamiliar shores, Blackthorne finds himself navigating a complex web of political intrigue and cultural divide.

As Blackthorne is cast into the midst of Japanese feudal conflicts, he encounters the samurai code of honour, the intricate rituals of the Japanese society, and the fierce political battles for power. Through resilience and cunning, Blackthorne ascends from a despised foreigner to a samurai and trusted advisor to Lord Toranaga, a powerful daimyo with aspirations of becoming Shogun.

Amidst looming civil war, Blackthorne must choose his allegiances wisely and adapt to survive in the alien yet captivating world of Japan. His journey transforms him and those around him, bringing to life a vivid and unforgettable depiction of a world that is both violent and exquisite.

About the Author

James Clavell, the son of a Royal Navy family, was educated in Portsmouth before, as a young artillery officer, he was captured by the Japanese at the Fall of Singapore. It was on this experience that his bestselling novel KING RAT was based. He maintained this oriental interest in his other great works: TAI-PAN, SHOGUN, NOBLE HOUSE and GAI JIN.
