Oasis became the band of the people by giving the people what they wanted: rock 'n' roll. They were Artful Dodgers from a housing scheme, who enjoyed their fame and created stadium anthems that connected with millions.

Andy Bollen was involved in music from the age of fourteen. He worked in record shops, was a DJ and toured with Nirvana. He has written about football, sports and politics, as well as being a comedy writer for BBC TV and a columnist with the SundayMailand Glasgow Herald.
