Puppy Zen
Puppy Zen
Understanding the critical nature of the formative period (1-4 months), Vette highlights the importance of instilling good habits and behaviours early on. The book starts with a fascinating exploration of the natural roles of puppies within a wolf pack, detailing the evolutionary journey of dogs from wolves, giving you a deeper understanding of your puppy's instincts and behaviours.
The guide then transitions into a practical, day-by-day, and week-by-week training regimen designed to address every aspect of puppy training. From essential commands like sit, heel, and stay to more complex behavioural guidance such as housebreaking, socialisation, and curbing unwanted behaviours like biting, barking, and jumping - every lesson is meticulously detailed to help you achieve the best results at the right developmental stage.
In addition to instructional chapters on training fundamentals, Vette covers how to choose the right puppy for your lifestyle, forming a strong bond with your pup, and the necessary equipment and techniques to ensure effective training. The importance of socialisation is deeply explored, teaching you how to create positive interactions with other dogs, humans, and various environments.
The book is richly illustrated with irresistible puppy photos taken by renowned animal photographer Rachael McKenna. These captivating images are paired with practical how-to shots demonstrating Vette’s training methods, making the instructions easy to follow and visually engaging.
With Puppy Zen, Mark Vette offers more than just a training manual; he presents a heartfelt approach to nurturing a lifelong bond with your dog. By merging scientific understanding with loving techniques, this book not only helps you train your puppy but also fosters a deeper connection and mutual understanding between you and your canine companion.
