This acclaimed memoir recounts a year in the life of a shepherd, tracing the seasonal rhythms and enduring traditions of shepherding that have been handed down through generations.

Rebanks draws readers into the shepherd's world, from the cold mornings herding sheep on the fells to the vibrant energy of lambing season. Through evocative and lucid prose, he highlights both the monotony and profound beauty found in the pastoral lifestyle. He vividly portrays the landscape, the hardworking people, and the close-knit community that forms the backbone of life in the Lake District.
