Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description

Breathing Under Water by Father Richard Rohr is a transformative exploration of the human condition, offering an introspective journey through the universal experience of addiction and the possibility of spiritual liberation. This insightful work delves into the cycles of dependency that bind individuals, whether those chains are forged by substances, technology, or any other compulsive behaviours that leave a void rather than fulfilment.

Father Rohr invites readers to confront these dependencies with courage and insight, utilising the Twelve Steps as an interpretive framework deeply rooted in Christian spirituality. This approach allows readers to understand how their personal struggles with addiction reflect universal themes found within the gospels and the teachings of Christ, thus weaving a seamless connection between personal healing and theological understanding.

The book positions itself as both a compassionate guide for individuals seeking freedom from their toxic habits and a spiritual manifesto for a more profound, meaningful life anchored in self-awareness and divine love. Rohr candidly discusses how embracing one's vulnerabilities and looking beyond societal norms of success and gratification can reveal the path to genuine joy and spiritual growth.

Enhanced by the reflective and eloquent foreword by Anne Lamott, this Tenth Anniversary Edition of Breathing Under Water remains a compelling read for anyone looking to reconcile personal faith and modern life challenges. It promises not just a journey through one's personal struggles, but also a rediscovery of one's own essence as a cherished child of God. Rohr’s teachings encourage building a "coral castle" in the depths of life's turbulent waters, where true freedom and spiritual enlightenment await.

Whether you are grappling with dependency or seeking a deeper connection to your spiritual self, this book offers the tools and wisdom needed to "breathe under water". It is a beacon of hope for those ready to embrace their vulnerabilities as a pathway to spiritual depth and personal liberation.
