The Hidden Queen by Peter V. Brett continues the enthralling tale in the Nightfall Saga, set in the expansive and richly imagined world of the Demon Cycle. As the second book in this epic fantasy series, it delves deeper into the chaos and heroism that ensues when humanity's war against demonkind reignites.

After a brief respite following the first demonic war, humanity faces a resurgence of the deadly demon corelings. The war seemed to be at an end, but peace is shattered as the demons return with a fury, threatening the very existence of mankind. The Spear of Ala, a mighty fortress standing guard at the threshold of the demons' lair, has been humanity's ultimate stronghold. Yet, whispers and dire reports suggest that this bastion may have already fallen to the monstrous horde.

Central to this tumultuous narrative are two compelling protagonists, Olive Paper and Darin Bales, each grappling with the weight of their legacies and destinies. Olive Paper, the offspring of the revered Ahmann Jardir, is expected to lead the charge against the demons. She alone can wield the ancient artefact capable of unlocking the gates of the Spear of Ala. However, Olive is torn between the mantle of leadership thrust upon her and her desire to carve her own path, separate from her father's renowned legacy.

On a parallel journey, Darin Bales struggles with his extraordinary yet overwhelming supernatural senses. Dismissed by many as incapable of self-reliance, Darin's resolve is tested when his mother is captured by the demon king, Alagai Ka. Determined to rescue her, Darin confronts his fears and doubts, ready to face insurmountable dangers.

As Olive and Darin navigate their intertwined fates, they are inexorably drawn towards an inevitable showdown with Alagai Ka and his newly emerged, fearsome hatchling queen. Their success or failure in this epic confrontation could determine the survival or extinction of humanity itself.

Peter V. Brett's mastery in storytelling shines through in The Hidden Queen, blending intricate world-building with deeply human characters. This instalment of the Nightfall Saga will captivate readers, keeping them on the edge of their seats as they explore a world where courage, legacy, and destiny collide in the face of overwhelming darkness.
