The Lost City of Z by David Grann is an enthralling adventure into the heart of the Amazon, chronicling the life and obsessions of Colonel Percy Harrison Fawcett, one of the last great British explorers. For years, Fawcett navigated the dense and perilous Amazon jungle, convinced that it concealed the remains of a vast and ancient civilisation he named the City of Z. In 1925, driven by his unyielding belief, Fawcett ventured into the wilderness with his son Jack, vowing to unearth this mysterious city. They were never seen again. For the next eighty years, a multitude of explorers sought to uncover the fate of Fawcett's expedition or discover the lost city he believed in. The Amazon claimed many lives due to disease, starvation, and the harsh environment, swallowing both dreams and lives as adventurers disappeared into its depths. In this spellbinding true tale of lethal obsession, David Grann meticulously retraces Fawcett's footsteps, weaving historical research with his own journey into the jungle to unravel one of exploration's greatest mysteries. Grann's narrative captures the danger, intrigue, and determination that drove these explorers, painting a vivid picture of their heroic age.
