This week we had the pleasure of welcoming comedian, writer, and all-round funny guy Pax Assadi to Book Hero to celebrate the release of his new book, Mortified.
Pax stopped by to meet the team, sign copies of the book, and sit down for a chat about comedy, writing, embarrassing moments, and life as a dad. From the moment he arrived, the office was filled with laughter. Charming, quick-witted, and incredibly down to earth, Pax had the team laughing non-stop throughout the visit.
We quickly discovered that alongside being one of New Zealand’s best comedians, Pax is also an awesome and very proud dad with a genuine love for dad jokes, which absolutely came through during our conversation.
In Mortified, Pax shares personal stories, awkward moments, and reflections with the same humour and honesty that have made him such a beloved voice in New Zealand comedy. The book balances laugh-out-loud moments with heartfelt honesty, making it both hilarious and incredibly relatable.
We also put him through a round of quick fire questions:
Watch the video to hear her answers!
Parakai Pools or Waiwera?
Sega Genesis/Mega Drive or PS1?
What’s harder: writing or performing?
Best heckler comeback you’ve heard?
Most “dad” thing about you?
One word your friends would use to roast you?
It was such a fun afternoon getting to know Pax, hearing more about Mortified, and sharing plenty of laughs along the way. Huge thanks to Pax for coming in and spending time with the Book Hero team.
Signed copies of Mortified are available now at Book Hero.
Honest, Hilarious, and Hugely Relatable
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I’ve been a fan of Pax’s comedy since his days in the trio Frickin Dangerous Bro right through to his hit TV show Raised by Refugees. Each chapter had me genuinely laughing out loud as Pax reflects on embarrassing moments from throughout his life. At the same time the book offers a look at what it was like for him growing up as an immigrant in Aotearoa and navigating the challenge of fitting in with his peers and society. There are so many moments in his book that everyone will be able to relate too. If you’re after a book that will make you laugh and feel seen all at once then I highly recommend Mortified!
