Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description

The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien is a timeless masterpiece of fantasy literature, serving as an enchanting prelude to the epic The Lord of the Rings trilogy. This special enhanced edition brings Tolkien's beloved tale to life with over 50 sketches, drawings, paintings, and maps by the author himself, and features the complete text printed in two colours.

The story follows Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit who enjoys a comfortable and unambitious life in his cosy hobbit-hole at Bag End. Bilbo’s world is turned upside down when the wise wizard Gandalf and a company of thirteen dwarves arrive at his doorstep. They recruit him for an unexpected adventure to reclaim a stolen treasure guarded by Smaug the Magnificent, a fearsome and very dangerous dragon. Reluctantly, Bilbo embarks on a thrilling journey that takes him far beyond the safety of the Shire and deep into the dangerous, unknown territories of Middle-earth. Along the way, he encounters trolls, elves, goblins, and other fantastical creatures, discovering untapped reserves of courage and cunning within himself.

Originally written for Tolkien's own children, The Hobbit was first published on 21 September 1937. It was adorned with a beautiful cover design, black & white drawings, and two maps meticulously crafted by the author, quickly becoming an instant success. In recognition of its popularity, the book was reprinted soon after its initial release, this time including five colour plates that added even more vibrancy to the magical world Tolkien created.

Tolkien’s own selection of finished paintings and drawings has become inseparable from his text, enriching editions of The Hobbit for more than 85 years. However, readers have only seen a fraction of Tolkien’s extensive artistic contributions; many additional sketches, coloured drawings, and maps—though exhibited and published elsewhere—had never been included within the pages of The Hobbit until now.

In this unique enhanced edition of Tolkien’s classic tale, the full spectrum of his art is reproduced for the first time. This volume presents more than 50 illustrations, offering readers a rare and immersive experience as they join Bilbo Baggins on his unforgettable adventure 'there and back again'. The combination of Tolkien's narrative brilliance and his rich, evocative illustrations makes this edition a must-have collector’s item for fans old and new.

Delve into the magical and perilous world of Middle-earth and experience the story that laid the foundation for an entire genre of modern fantasy literature. Whether you are rediscovering an old favourite or embarking on your first journey with Bilbo, this enhanced edition of The Hobbit promises to be a treasured addition to your library.
