Historical Records of Australia
Deals with the letters and documents of Tasmania in the year 1830. This title shows the development of educational and religious institutions, the maturation of Governor Arthur's convict system, issues of trial by jury, and original dispatches of the period between the Governor and London. It offers an account of the early growth of Australia.
Historical Records of Australia is a basic and vital source for early Australian history.
Historical Records of Australia is a basic and vital source for early Australian history.
This is the resumed series III, volume IX, the first volume being published in 1925. Edited by Peter Chapman, here are despatches and papers relating to the history of Tasmania (this volume taking in January-December 1830), and also a commentary of the despatches and letters. All the letters and despatches have retained their spellings and nuances.
This source is invaluable and essential for people who want to learn and read about European and Aboriginal relations first-hand. Of particular interest is Chapman's discussion of Windschuttle's The Fabrication of Aboriginal History.
The endpapers of HRA, series III, volume IX show the important Black Line map, which details the military, settler and convict operation against the Aborigines of Van Diemen's Land (which was called the Black Line operation).
