The Story to Screen Report

It’s been another huge week for book-to-screen news, and Sacha has rounded up all the biggest adaptation updates in the latest Story to Screen Report, from major casting announcements to BookTok favourites getting the TV treatment.

‘The Boys of Tommen’ adaptation is finally becoming real

Chloe Walsh’s bestselling Boys of Tommen books are being adapted into an eight-episode series following the intense love story between rugby star Johnny Kavanagh and new student Shannon Lynch at an elite Irish school. Prime Video has now confirmed the first major cast members, with newcomers Nancy Surridge and Conor Sánchez leading the series as Shannon and Johnny. James O’Donoghue and Sophie McGibbon have also joined as Joey Lynch and Aoife Molloy. Production is expected to begin later this year, with the show likely arriving in 2027.

‘His & Hers’ is officially Netflix’s biggest show of 2026 so far

‘His & Hers’ has become the most-watched show of 2026 so far, proving everyone is still obsessed with a good messy murder mystery. The thriller series, based on Alice Feeney’s bestselling novel, stars Tessa Thompson and Jon Bernthal as exes who get pulled into the same murder investigation while dealing with their own complicated history. Since premiering in January, the show has dominated streaming charts, pulled in huge viewer numbers, and quickly become one of Netflix’s biggest original hits in years.

Netflix’s ‘East of Eden’ finally has a release window and the trailer looks intense

Netflix just dropped the first teaser for East of Eden and it already looks seriously dramatic. The seven-episode limited series stars Florence Pugh as Cathy Ames in a new adaptation of John Steinbeck’s classic novel, with the story focusing on family trauma, jealousy, love, and generational chaos across the Trask family. Netflix confirmed the series will premiere in fall 2026 (spring in NZ), and the teaser is giving dark prestige drama with gorgeous cinematography and emotional damage everywhere. Honestly, between Florence Pugh leading the cast and Zoe Kazan adapting it, this already feels like one of Netflix’s biggest awards season plays.

HBO’s Harry Potter Series Is Recasting Ginny Weasley for Season 2

The upcoming Harry Potter TV series is already facing its first major casting change, with actress Gracie Cochrane stepping away from her role as Ginny Weasley after Season 1 due to “unforeseen circumstances.” HBO confirmed the role will be recast ahead of Season 2, where Ginny becomes a much bigger part of the story in Chamber of Secrets. Cochrane said she’s grateful for the experience and excited for future opportunities, while HBO thanked her for her work on the series.

The ‘Every Year After’ Trailer Is Pure Summer Romance Pain

Prime Video just dropped the first trailer for Every Year After, the adaptation of Carley Fortune’s bestselling romance Every Summer After, and it’s giving lakeside nostalgia, unresolved feelings, and emotional damage. The series follows Percy and Sam across six summers and one life-changing reunion weekend in Barry’s Bay as they try to figure out whether first love ever really goes away. Starring Sadie Soverall and Matt Cornett, the eight-episode series premieres June 10 and already looks ready to emotionally destroy everyone who loved the book.

Margo’s Rich Girl Era Is So Back

“Margo’s Got Money Troubles” just secured a Season 2 renewal and honestly nobody is surprised because the girlies were locked in from episode one. The show came through with chaotic energy, messy decisions, and main character delusion in the best way possible, plus Elle Fanning absolutely carried. Critics ate it up, fans were obsessed, and now we’re getting more of Margo trying to survive adulthood while making the most unhinged choices imaginable.

‘We Were Liars’ expands cast With six new series regulars

‘We Were Liars’ Season 2 just added a whole lineup of new series regulars and the Sinclair family lore is officially getting messier. The next season is pulling from ‘Family of Liars’, the prequel novel, which means we’re heading back to the summer of 1999 for young love, rich people behaving badly, and apparently murder. Josh Dallas, Peyton List, Madison Wolfe, Elysia Roorbach, Parker Lapaine, and Costa D’Angelo are all joining the cast as younger versions of the Sinclairs and other key characters.

Verity Is Serving Main Character Energy Again

The film tie-in cover for Verity just dropped and yeah, it’s kind of everything. Dark, dramatic, suspiciously attractive, exactly the vibe this book deserves. Colleen Hoover fans are already losing it online and honestly valid because this cover looks like it was made to ruin your sleep schedule all over again. Even better, it’s officially available for pre-order now ahead of its September release, before the movie hits cinemas in October.

Liz Tomforde’s ‘Windy City’ series is heading to TV

The sports romance takeover is not slowing down because Liz Tomforde’s massively popular series is officially being adapted for television by Amazon MGM Studios. The BookTok favourite series follows a group of professional athletes navigating love, friendship, fame, and relationship drama across interconnected stories. With millions of copies sold and readers already obsessed with casting their dream leads, the series already feels like one of the internet’s next big romance adaptations.

Chuck Lorre’s memoir sounds like absolute Hollywood chaos

Chuck Lorre is finally spilling everything in a new memoir called Sitcom, and honestly it sounds messy in the best way. The TV king behind The Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men, and Young Sheldon is getting real about addiction, anxiety, failed marriages, chronic illness, and somehow still creating some of the biggest sitcoms ever made. Basically imagine decades of Hollywood drama, therapy breakthroughs, and behind-the-scenes chaos all in one book. Sitcom drops October 13, 2026 and it’s available for pre-order now.

Cowboy romance girlies just won again with the Rose Hill TV adaptation

Prime Video is officially turning Elsie Silver’s Rose Hill series into a TV show and honestly the yeehaw romance agenda keeps winning. The BookTok favourite series is packed with hot ranchers, billionaire drama, small-town chaos, forced proximity, emotional baggage, and people aggressively falling in love in flannel. Death and Other Details co-creator Heidi Cole McAdams is set to run the show, with Marc Webb directing the first episodes, which already feels kind of huge.

And that’s a wrap on this week’s Story to Screen Report! We’ll be back next week with more casting news, trailers, adaptation announcements, and all the latest book-to-screen chaos 🍿📚
