The Life of Dai by Dai Henwood and Jaquie Brown is a deeply moving, yet profoundly uplifting memoir that captures the essence of living with joy, even amidst adversity. The book offers a heartfelt exploration of Henwood's journey, illustrating his transition from a celebrated comedian to a beacon of hope and resilience after a life-altering diagnosis. Through his story, readers are invited to rediscover what truly matters in life by celebrating the small, often overlooked moments that bring us joy.

“Part memoir and part masterclass in finding hope and joy in the face of unthinkable challenges. This isn't a book about cancer, it's a book about living,” says co-author Jaquie Brown.

Dai Henwood's passion for comedy began long before he even knew what a comedian was. With a career spanning over 25 years, Henwood has become a beloved Kiwi entertainer and TV host, earning every major comedy award in New Zealand. However, in January 2023, he revealed publicly that he had been living with stage 4 bowel cancer for three years.

Facing an incurable illness, Henwood's perspective on life shifted dramatically. Rather than succumbing to despair, he found a new way of living that embraced the beauty of small moments and the importance of cherishing things we often take for granted. His story extends beyond a narrative of illness, becoming a powerful testament to the human spirit and the capacity for finding joy even in the darkest times.

The Life of Dai is replete with humour, showcasing Henwood’s signature wit and ability to find laughter even when life presents its greatest challenges. His comedic insights serve as a reminder that laughter is indeed a potent form of medicine. Through this memoir, Henwood teaches his readers that the gifts we seek in life are often right before our eyes; we just need to learn how to see them.
