Have you, a friend or a family member been living with undiagnosed autism?

For every visibly Autistic person you meet, there are countless 'masked' people who pass as neurotypical. They don't fit the stereotypical mould of Autism and are often forced by necessity to mask who they are, spending their entire lives trying to hide their Autistic traits. In particular, there is evidence that Autism remains significantly undiagnosed in women, people of colour, trans and gender non-conforming people, many of whom are only now starting to recognise those traits later in life.

Unmasking Autism delves into the intricacies of this phenomenon of 'masking' - a survival mechanism by which many Autistic individuals hide their authentic selves to fit into a world that does not readily accept their differences. Dr Devon Price, an expert in neurodiversity and a proud advocate for Autistic individuals, offers a powerful exposition on the consequences of masking and the liberating journey towards radical authenticity.

Blending cutting-edge research, personal insights, and practical exercises, Dr Price meticulously constructs a compelling argument for embracing one’s true identity. Their exploration not only illuminates the unseen challenges but also celebrates the unique strengths of Autistic individuals. Through poignant anecdotes and rigorous analysis, Dr Price reveals how society's narrow expectations force many Autistics into a masquerade, driving a profound desire for self-acceptance and societal change.

In this transformative book, readers are equipped with tools and exercises designed to help them break free from the constraints of conformity. Unmasking Autism serves as both a guide and a manifesto, advocating for a world where every individual can thrive on their own terms. Dr Price's call for a more inclusive society is a rallying cry for everyone to recognise and celebrate the diverse spectrum of human experience.

This insightful and moving work is essential reading for Autistic individuals, their loved ones, and for all who wish to understand and ally with the neurodiversity movement. It is a powerful reminder that everyone deserves to be seen and accepted for who they truly are.
