In case you're wondering, this is not a love story. "The Catcher in the Rye for the digital age" The Times
TikTok made me buy it! The teen bestseller from the YA Prize winning author and creator of Netflix series HEARTSTOPPER
Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! DescriptionSolitaire by Alice Oseman is a gripping and introspective novel that delves into the mind of sixteen-year-old Tori Spring. Tori is a cynical teenager who prefers solitude and the comfort of blogging over social interactions. Everything changes when a mysterious group called Solitaire begins to orchestrate pranks around her school, and Michael Holden, an eccentric new student, enters her life. Through Michael's unrelenting attempts to connect with her, Tori is forced to confront her own feelings of alienation and apathy.
This engrossing debut novel not only explores Tori's internal struggles but also touches on themes of friendship, mental health, and the pressure of academic expectations. As she tries to uncover Solitaire's motives, Tori grapples with her diminishing belief in happiness and must decide whether to remain detached or to take a leap of faith in those around her.
A CHILDREN’S TOP 10 BESTSELLER (TCM)
The debut novel from Alice Oseman, author of the 2021 YA Book Prize-winning Loveless. Solitaire features the characters that inspired the beloved series Heartstopper – now a major Netflix series.
“The Catcher in the Rye for the digital age” – The Times
“My name is Tori Spring. I like to sleep and I like to blog. Last year – before all that stuff with Charlie and before I had to face the harsh realities of A-Levels and university applications and the fact that one day I really will have to start talking to people – I had friends. Things were very different, I guess, but that’s all over now.”
Now there’s Solitaire. And Michael Holden.
I don’t know what Solitaire are trying to do, and I don’t care about Michael Holden. I really don’t.
This incredible debut novel by outstanding young author Alice Oseman is perfect for fans of John Green, Rainbow Rowell, and all unflinchingly honest writers. Solitaire is a raw and compelling exploration of the teenage experience in the digital age, capturing the loneliness and confusion that often accompanies it.
