The Dictionary Story
The Dictionary Story
The much-anticipated new picture book from Oliver Jeffers and Sam Winston, the bestselling and award-winning creators of A Child of Books.
The Dictionary Story invites readers into a whimsical world where a dictionary dreams of telling imaginative tales just like the novels and storybooks that surround her. Yearning to weave a narrative of her own, Dictionary decides to bring her words to life, transforming the pages into a playground for adventure. As words spring to life, excitement ensues, and her pages become filled with vivid escapades.
However, the joyous journey soon spirals out of control. The words and characters, now bursting with energy and enthusiasm, begin to collide and cause chaos. What should have been an orderly story turns into a magnificent jumble, with a colossal tantrum threatening to take over. Dictionary finds herself overwhelmed and unsure of how to bring back the sense and calm to her pages.
In the midst of the turmoil, Dictionary’s steadfast friend, Alphabet, comes to the rescue. Known for his wisdom and soothing presence, Alphabet serenades Dictionary's chaotic pages with a calming song, restoring order and clarity. Together, they embark on a journey of understanding that even in the midst of disorder, creativity and collaboration can illuminate a path to harmony.
The Dictionary Story is a beautifully illustrated tale that not only celebrates the joy of words but also embraces the messiness of creativity. Jeffers and Winston masterfully blend their unique artistic styles, combining innovative typography and stunning visual artwork to create a book that is as much a treat for the eyes as it is for the mind. This enchanting picture book is perfect for young readers and those who cherish the magic of language and storytelling.
With its heartwarming themes and captivating illustrations, The Dictionary Story will undoubtedly capture the hearts of readers, leaving them with a profound appreciation for the beauty found within words and the stories they create. It’s a must-have addition to any bookshelf, sure to inspire and delight readers of all ages.
