Raising Human Beings by Dr. Ross W. Greene, renowned child psychologist and bestselling author of Lost at School and The Explosive Child, presents a transformative approach to parenting that helps foster strong parent-child relationships while nurturing key traits such as empathy, honesty, resilience, and independence. This insightful guide is not only a manual for good parenting but also a roadmap to understanding who your child truly is—their unique skills, preferences, beliefs, personality traits, and goals—and helping them thrive in accordance with their true selves.

In Raising Human Beings, Dr. Greene challenges the conventional methods of parenting that often involve strict control, punitive measures, and a one-size-fits-all approach. He encourages parents to view their children not as mere subjects to be moulded but as individuals with their own voice and perspective. Central to this philosophy is his proven model of solving problems collaboratively. This involves moving away from traditional disciplinary tactics like timeouts and sticker charts, and instead embracing strategies that ensure children feel heard, understood, and validated.

Through practical guidelines and real-world examples, Dr. Greene equips parents with tools to address common day-to-day challenges, from managing homework and establishing hygiene routines to setting curfews and negotiating screen time. By adopting these collaborative problem-solving techniques, parents can avoid destructive patterns such as berating, threatening, or punishing, which often lead to resentment and conflict.

Dr. Greene's approach is rooted in empathy and respect, and he provides clear, actionable advice to help parents find the delicate balance between guiding their children and allowing them to make independent choices. By cultivating an environment where open dialogue and mutual respect thrive, parents can exert a positive influence without being overbearing or lenient.

Raising Human Beings has been highly praised by critics and readers alike. Dr. Greene "makes a powerful case for rethinking typical approaches to parenting and disciplining children," as noted by The Atlantic. Adele Faber, coauthor of How to Talk So Kids Will Listen, commends the book for its "clear, doable guidelines that empower both parents and their children." Additionally, Publishers Weekly describes it as "inspirational…a game-changer for parents, teachers, and other caregivers," stating its advice is both "reasonable and empathetic,” making readers feel ready to forge a better relationship with the children in their lives.

For any parent seeking to nurture their child's emotional and psychological growth while maintaining a healthy and influential relationship, Raising Human Beings offers invaluable insights and effective strategies.
